LP BM MTB CARNIVAL, 16/10/11
Morning call at 530 am and all set for the Carnival. Rendezvous at Mc
Donald Greenlane at 630 and after a hearty breakfast, we departed for Sg Lembu ( Where the heck is this place!!)
Misjudging the time to we arrived late at 745 am, the riders have all assembled and a group of Indian musicians were playing followed by Lion dance and I think there was a Kompang gang as well but we missed it as we were late. A few supercars were there with their throaty engine revving and ?? some super girls as well. It does live up to its carnival name !!
IPOH CENTURY RIDE, 2011 - A RIDE WITH A DIFFERENCE
ARRIVED at Ipoh Excesior hotel at 830 pm and buddies with families in toll had already checked in and had an early dinner but that does not stop them from joining for a second round of Lou Wong, taukyeh chicken sa hor fun. Walloped 2 bowls of the delicious hor fun and Ben bought some delicious kaya pastries which is truly nice. Guess that is enough carbo loading for the 160 Km task tomorrow but acting on Ben suggestion bought another 2 Nestle yogurt to "flush the guts". Anyone got any experience on this ?
Thanks to Ah Loon who had collected my riding number, timing chip and t shirt earlier, we set to the luggage room where hundreds of bikes were stored and fitted the number and the chip which has to be lower than your water bottle for accurate detection of your distance.
PENANG - BETONG RECCE RIDE 12th, JUNE, 2011
PENANG TO BETONG RIDE 12.6.11
Started off riding from Butterworth PETRONAS Station at about 7 45 am. In just a short distance we are in the motorcycle lane on the BKE, which is about the standard lane that you get along Jelutong Expressway. It was a smooth > 16 Km ride before we reached Lunas where we joined the main trunk road. The terrain along the motorcycle lane is pretty flat and the only caution is to ride in single file and when overtaking or pulling over to the right for the peloton to pass, please look out for speeding motorcycle, which can come quite near to you. The good news is that on an early Sunday morning, there are not that many of them.

LP MTB based in BUTTERWORTH & G CLUB PENANG CYCLISTS
Cyclist Down ....................First Aid Treatment!!!!
It has been a week since I rendered first aid to a cyclist who was quite badly injured during the KW ride. It rained few days before the the ride and the ground was wet. I was riding behind this cyclist and at Genting near the massive flyover and highway construction he skidded and hit against the concrete embankment. As I was passing by, he seems to be in severe agony and was groaning and gasping for breath. To make matters worse, it happened at a 2 lane becoming one lane part of the road and there is a makeshift traffic light controlling traffic from either side. At any one time only one traffic flow from either side is possible and it is also at a acute turn obscuring view.
First aid measure while waiting for the ambulance to arrive will include;
Unique single speed bicycle with no brake
Was fascinated by this bike rode all over Stockholm by old and young. This magnificent ubiquitous machine weighs a ton and comes complete with dynamo which I remember my grandma's bike used to have. I was fascinated as I could not see any brakes mechanism on the handle bars and was wondering how they stop this heavy machine

PENANG TO HATYAI (243 KM) - With Triathlon Penang Group (FINAL)
It has been a hectic week since our ultramarathon ride on Labour day and finally could find time to put ink on paper. The ride started with the triathlon group mooting the idea of doing an extra long ride after their last one 6 months ago from Penang to Hatyai via Kayu Hitam a distance of about 200 Km. The route via Padang Besar was chosen finally because their last experience via the Kayu Hitam route was quite unpleasant having to put up with narrow road and speeding traffic esp big lorries and trucks which use the main highway to get to Hatyai. They were also caught in a rain and dust and upon reaching Hatyai were all covered with soots and grimes.
Sunglasses & Helmets - Fashion Wears?
Can't help but to write a bit on the importance of proper attires when riding due to a few serious head & neck bicycling related injuries whom I have attended to recently. The most recent one involving a teenager who was riding around his neighbourhood at 11 pm when a motorbike came ramming at him from the back. Sound familiar??? It is the same old story again.......riding without adequate/no lightings, no helmet etc. He was thrown forward and crashed on his left face and shoulder. The shoulder injury was ok and the facial contusion and abrasions and lacerations were unsightly at first glance but these are the least of his problems. It has been 2 months now since the accident and his face is back to his usual look.
