It has been two years since I bought this bike back in 2010. Few major upgrades have been done on this bike- full drivetrain conversion(Shimano SORA 8 speed to Miche Team 10 10 speed system), wheelset(OEM Formula/Alexrim wheelset to Miche Reflex to Soul S2.0), saddle(Bontrager sport saddle to San Marco Carbon FX). But I have not done anything on the cockpit(other than changing the 90mm Bontrager stem to a loaned 100mm Easton EC50). Part of the reasons is I have been looking around aluminium stem and handle bars that suits within my budget.
Then an opportunity arose few days back when a friend of mine asked if I were interested on stuffs from Edge Design USA. I know Edge produce very nice roadie wheels, especially their mid and high profile carbon wheelsets are praised by pro cyclists around the world. But I had not heard of them producing stuffs for cockpits.
So my friend showed me the stuffs and the price of their aluminium stem and handlebar. Well, the price was really nice to hear. Two times cheaper than my favorite brands(TTT, Deda) for the same alumiunium stem and handlebar.
Moreover they have 42cm handlebar for their aluminium handle model since it is quite hard to come by with that width. After the much pestering from the seller, I decided to wrap the handlebar with the Edge handle bar tape as well.
Well the upgrade did not stop there. Upon inspection, he found my chain was quite stretchy(> 0.75). Got it changed with a sightly used Campy Record 10 speed chain.
I am going to try out the bike with "new" chain and new cockpit(110mm stem with 42cm handlebar) this coming Sunday how it goes. A short ride around the taman has proved the upgrade made the cockpit more comfy to hold. I guess this is going to be the last upgrade to my Trek. Everything, except the carbon Bontrager seat post has been changed. The next upgrade(if there is a next upgrade) would definitely be a new bike.

this is the 1st time we are starting our ride from CAR FREE ZONE instead of the usual G Hotel main entrance.
split in 2 groups, 1 to Teluk Bahang n back and the other went around heritage area, suitable for newbies and family.
the whole CAR FREE ZONE is pretty well supported and you can see family with kids on toy car, skaters and what not... more should be done to make the place more "happening".
MPPP enofrment officers can be seen barring cars / bikes from entering the zone.
I heard that G Club will be organising a ride to Hatyai somewhere early next year. may I hv more details about the ride, such as what time to meet up? Where to meet up? How much? What is the averegae speed needed? Which hotel to stay? Can spouse follow and how much if they follow and so on..... thanks in advance!!!
Keep our finger crossed and hope for the best outcome of this project, it will blossomed for sure~!!~ Long life Penang !!! Keep it up Dr Lim, G Club and our beloved CM of Penang~!!~
Care Free Day is here!!! Will it withered or will it blossomed??
It was a great morning for all of us who took part and certainly it was a great success judging from the crowd and the fun everyone was having. So after all the poms, it is time to take stock; Will it withered or will it blossomed.
Penangites have been clamoring for car free day for years and now our dreams have come through. We now joined the rank of the environment conscious countries which celebrate World Car Free day on every 22nd Sept. It feels wonderful to walk on Beach St freely this morning with not even a single motorised vehicle and with the carnival environment, it really make my morning.
The current car free zone will be at Beach St, stretching up to Church st and Bishop Street and these areas will be blocked off every sunday from 8 am to 5 pm. An addendum i.e the Esplanade area will also be car free but for a shorter period i.e 7 am to 11 am.
To sustain crowd and activities in these zone weekly will be challenge. Whether it withers or blossoms will depends on our joint effort.
So this is the best time for your voices heard to be, feel free to suggest, the CM is listening!!
