CFAL 4 th Edition LATEST Update 
7th May, 2012, 9.50pm
Following up from the previous newsletter; Giant bicycle will be sponsoring the following Items:-
1 GIANT Arch, GIANT Flag, GIANT water drop flag & GIANT tent.
2 GIANT bikes for lucky draw (this will be worth folowing up as it will be something wonderful like last year's special edition)
3 GIANT Towel 4 Recycle Bag,
4 Participants can get a GIANT Cap (worth RM35 each) if they visit the GIANT booth after the event with their GIANT bicycles.
5 100 units of GIANT gears as lucky draw prizes (similar to Ride for Sight 2012 lucky draws held recently, but the gears and value are definitely higher and attractive)
Items sponsored: GIANT Trainer, GIANT helmets, GIANT shoes, GIANT Computer, GIANT Car Rack and etc !!!
As for last year, we are trying to make it as festive and carnival as possible with water tear drops flags, boards around the finishing ala GRAND PRIX style etc.

The first press conference was held on the 26th April at G hotel with great pomp. The CIMB FOUNDATION is again coming in as the main sponsor and we will conclude the final (4th phase) of the bicycle signpostS around the Penang island. After the 4th CFAL, even if you have not been to Penang island and you wants to cycle around the island, you would not lose your way. Just follow the Cimb foundation/G club/Rotary club bicycle signposts and you would have done 82 Km.
The theme for this year's jersey will be the "bicycle chain". Hence the design on the CFAL jersey will be as below;
Look at the 2 reflector rings, we are still trying to persuade the manufacturer to design it in this unique way and hopefully they have the expertise to do it.
As for sponsorship, Giant Bicycle is coming in a big way and we will update you on these in the next newsletter.
The registation has reached 1000 (696 online and more than 300 manually from bicycle shops) Please register ASAP as the registration will be closed once we have achieved the maximum regardless of the July 15th deadline)

We have received words that the Chief Minister of Penang has confirmed coming to grace the CFAL 4th Edition and most likely will be cycling with all of us on the 9th Sept.
The CFAL 4th EDITION first press conference will the held on the 26th April (Thursday) and to date we have a few confirmed sponsors. It will be held at G Hotel, Persiaran Gurney at 10 am. All are welcome to attend.
We have also finalised our jersey design and this year our Designer Eng Cheong is feeling fetish about the bicycle chain so the design will be based on it. For a brief preview, refer to below. I am sure this jersey will be a hit with all participants.
Also please be informed that a user friendly interface courtesy from Howei Online website for outdoor & bicycle equipments is now available.

Group Online registration is implemented now ! CLICK TO REGISTER NOW !
If you are registering just for yourself (or on behalf of one of your friend), use the normal Single Registration.
However, if are registering for a group of your friends, you can use the newly implemented Group Registration.
The form will iterate through until you have keyed in the last details of all your friends. Then, just like in the Single Registration, you click another button to make payment. But instead of entering a single amount of RM70(for one participant), you now enter the total amount (70 multiplied by the number of participants)...

CFAL 4 th Edition Update
15th April, 2012, 1pm
Today is the launching day and our good friend Eng Cheong is again sacrifing his dating day to link up the registration site i,e Howei direct marketing site (specialising in outdoor stuffs and bicycles stuff). In a few minutes, we should be able to register hopefully seamlessly.
We have concluded the Finisher's Medal and it is in the form of Penang Island with all the little townships that you are going to cycle pass during the romantic 82 Km round island ride. Its distance in Km from the starting point i.e Esplanade is also included to allow you to reminisce over your "EPIC" ride. To signify that you have gone round the island a road bicycle wheel complete with black tyre rimming round the Penang island is embedded on the medal. It is with great pleasure that we, the G Club Penang Cyclists would like to announce that the CFAL 4th Edition scheduled on the 9th September, 2012 will be open for registration on the 15th of April 2012. You can register at most of the established bicycle shops in Penang or online at this website.
The registration will be maintained at Rm70 and a nice jersey designed by our Limkokwing trained, Eng Cheong who had done a good job for the last 3 years will be in your goodiy bag and a medal in the form of a bicycle wheel on Penang island (look out for the medal at this website or our club facebook soon) will be given to all participants who qualified for the round island ride.
The route ie Round Penang Island will be the same as last year at 82 Km and it will be as challenging with 2 steep hills to climb and you will be rewarded with beautiful vista of Penang island coastline and the rustic sceneries of rural Balik Pulau not to mention the numerous durian orchards that you are going to cycle through at Teluk Bahang.
So mark your calendar and do register early as we have set a limit to the number of participants and the online registration is programmed to shut down once the maximum number has reached.

Ride of Silence Penang - 16 May 2012
The Ride of Silence is a free ride that asks its cyclists to ride no faster than 20km/h, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road and remain silent during the ride. There are no sponsors and no registration fees. The ride aims to raise the awareness of the motorists, police and city officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. This ride is also a chance to show respect for and honour the lives of those who have been killed or injured.
This year, GClub plans to join this worldwide movement to increase awareness to Penangites. Penang is fast becoming a haven for cycling and we can see many cyclists on the roads almost every day on the roads. It is imperative that before anything untoward should happen, we must be proactive to advocate the right attitude for the road users and cyclists alike. Increasing awareness for the cyclists that they can also perish in road accidents as well as for the other motorized road users that bicycles also have a right to Share The Road is the beginning of a mutual understanding between one another.
For those interested, there are FOUR RULES to follow during the ride.
1) MUST ride less than 20km/h
2) MUST wear helmet and have lights for bike
3) MUST follow traffic rules (stop at red lights please)
4) MUST Ride in silence
Prerequisites :
Riders must be self sufficient as there will not be any escorts or road closures. This ride is created to encourage traffic obediance.
Wear white jerseys or T-shirts as a mark of respect to our fallen cyclists.
