Beside G-club Teluk Bahang Monthly ride , G-club also can organize Air Itam Dam ride which is also great for newbie and advanced rider . For newbie , they can ride until Air Itam Dam and if they felt tired they can go down the coffee shop for some break , and as for advanced ride they can go to Ngor Hean or Banana Plantation for more exciting sprint . Air Itam Dam night ride was fun too , as RINR was quite dangerous because need to get on to the traffic . Btw , all my words is to say Air Itam Dam was great to newbie and advanced rider , hope G-club will support , Thanks . Just my 2sen.

If an accident were to happen to a newbie or one of our members, the question is can we live with it? It's a very dangerous stretch of road, narrow, winding and lots of traffic. Last year we had an experienced rider knocked down by a car in the relatively safe stretch near Teluk Bahang. Last Sunday, at the Holiday Inn traffic light a car make a left turn in front of Diana that could have serious consequences. The TB route is a safer, more challenging, and a much more enjoyable ride for both newbies and regulars. For those so inclined, there is no reason why they cannot continue to ride from G hotel to TB and join the group to Pantai Aceh. But please don't encourage the newbies to do that! Safety should always be our no. 1 priority !

Tend to agree with turbosnail on the $$ part. The money collection is a hassle and sometimes, getting "looks" from people when you're collecting from them is not worth it.
We can handle our own meals. Not much money involved even when we spend friends for breakfast. Pantai Acheh looks like a good idea. Teluk Bahang not much kick already. Furthermore the exposure to the traffic along Tg. Tokong to Batu Feringgi when there are a lot of riders can pose a risk to both the rider and the driver as our group is quite big. Makes it hard for the drivers to steer the whole journey carefully.
Support the new route!
On another note, we might have done phase 1 of the bicycle signage from Gurney to Bahang. Now for the next step. We can see quite a number of riders making full use of the stretch already too! :)
While on our way back, we stopped by for another drink at Tg Bungah with a few "old timers" for the above ride and mentioned to them that i had rode all the 13 Bahang Ride since day 1.
Mike read my mind n know i am somewhat "bored" doing the same thing month after month and suggested G Club make some 'changes' on the monthly ride.
Mike suggest that the next ride we should start from Teluk Bahang Kopitiam or Forest Park at the foothill of Bahang Dam then proceed all the way to Pantai Aceh for breakfast then back. You can either ride or drive to T. Bahang.
Mike rides this route regularly and mentioned that it will not be hot when coming back as the whole route is pretty shaded. There are hardly any cars / motorbike. G Club would be able to save some $ as we do not need to employ RELA for the route. Lastly, you will be duly "rewarded" when riding this route as after the climb, it will be downhill all the way, to and fro...
Shall we do a poll on this ??? Let G Club members decide.
I have read, and I have read, so many responses from all on this website on G Club T Bahang monthly ride. It is good that people can voice out their opinions.
As Stingray has correctly pointed out, the 2nd Sunday of the month T Bahang ride from G Hotel is synonymous with G Club Cycling. Why change the tradition? It's not as if there are no other weekends to ride other routes.
Some cyclists over here are already imagining they are some kind of Lance Armstrong. C'mon, we are all gathering together to cycle for fun. We don't join G Club to see who can ride faster, who can climb higher, who has the most expensive bike. We gather because we want to make new friends and enjoy the cycling fellowship.
I say to those who want to do the metric ride, the mountain ride, whatever difficult rides. You can arrange it among the riders who want to participate. But leave the 2nd Sunday G Club T Bahang ride alone for newbies and lesiure cyclists who want to ride that route in safety of a group.
G Club committee should go back to the basics of providing encouragement to the new cyclist. They feel safe when cycling with experienced riders. We should provide a leader in front, prominent in G Club jersey, to maintain a reasonable pace and no riders are allowed to overtake him/her. Then we should have sweepers behind the last rider. Members should take up this duty by roster. Be responsible on the road before fighting for your own bicycle lane. Cyclists who do not want to ride within the group perimeters should be discouraged to join and asked to ride on their own. Otherwise don't call it a G-Club ride.
Talking about guiding newbies, yes, we can learn a thing or two from experienced riders like those in RINR.
Particularly in our second RINR, the leader did a great job by (1) stopping regularly to regroup (2) always visible and infront, commanding the group (3) coordinating with the sweeper at the back
At end of the ride, everyone enjoys it, including the leaders themselves.

While voicing out thoughts, opinions and suggestions about the monthly ride, I think we should refrain ourselves from making statements that ...err...may not be appropriate to the topic discussed.
Lets stick to the topic and lets the poll result tells the committee if majority thinks it's ok to change the venue.
So far, 40-40. A close match! More voites, more votes!

I support the idea of changing our monthly ride i.e starting from Teluk Bahang - Pantai Acheh, have breakfast there & cycle back to Tlk Bahang. I feel it is safer & I personally prefer that stretch cos it's much cooler and more challenging than Gurney - Tlk Bahang. Hope most of our regular riders are agreeable to the change.
Our G Hotel to Teluk Bahang monthly ride is very symbolic to G Club. Many ppl have associated G Club with this ride. And moreover it's a good stretch to test out newbies and a stretch that will attract attention, creating more awareness...
My concern with TBahang Acheh is not many riders would want to do this. First, they have to bring their bike to Teluk Bahang, that's already a hassle. And how many riders would (and can) do a Acheh and back? In the end it will only attract a small group of seasoned riders...

Every where when I go cycling, I think most of the rider know that G-club cycle on the 2nd sunday from G-hotel to teluk bahang. This route is consider a trademark for G-club cyclist. If we change this route, I'm afraid that we will lost our trademark. I think we should maintain the teluk bahang ride for the newbie. Instead of we stop at the teluk bahang roundabout coffeeshop, we should go straight to the teluk bahang dam for photo session. For the seasonal rider, they can either bring their bike to teluk bahang or cycle there. Everybody meet up at the teluk bahang dam at 8:45am for photo session. The newbie can either cycle back for breakfast at the roundabout or G-hotel. If they feel that the ride is too short, they can continue to Pantai acheh. For the season rider, they can starts their journey at 8:45am at teluk bahang dam..
Agree, after all what is the primary goal of G Club? To have fun and to get more to cycle? If you have to transport your bike to Teluk Bahang and then cycle up the hill to Pantai Acheh and back, hmmm...
What about G Club setting a goal of say 10 newbies for it's monthly ride to Teluk Bahang ? MAybe make Teluk Bahang ride a "newbie ride" ?

Dear Captain and hardcore members,
Regarding the change of route for our monthly ride which suggested by few of G club hardcore members recently that we sud meet up at Teluk Bahang and ride up to Pantai Achen and so on... I think is a good idea...... BUT I would like to suggest that people like me who lives in Bayan Baru area, can we ride from here to meet you guys in Pantai Acheh instead of driving all the way to Teluk Bahang? What is your suggestion? Is it more convenience for the riders here to ride up this way? As I am still new and I do not know the distance very well as this just came across my mind. Shall we split into two groups instead? So that the group photography session will take place in Pantai Acheh or Pulau Betong instead~!~
Lastly, since G Club is using G Hotel logo and is some how connected to G Hotel, by meeting in Teluk Bahang, will we be neglecting G Hotel in any way? Or shall we organise monthly Heritage ride or any makan makan ride around town that we will be able to meet up in G Hotel again?

I like your idea of changing the venue.
IMHO, having a breakfast at the dam is a good idea. But imposing RM10 for the breakfast??? Remember what happen when it was proposed to ask the riders to pay for the RELA escort for the round island night ride??? That would definitely sign a dead warrant to the ride! I might be wrong though, I have reservation on this.
I agree we should have a poll to see if it is ok to change the ride venue.
Sounds good, but wouldn't it be too hot? No shelter there wor. Sungei Pinang Hokkien Mee, not bad. Tried it 2 weeks ago. I like the Tlk Bahang to Pantai Acheh ride.
You may end up with only 10 people riding and slowly it may die a natural death!
The Teluk Bahang stretch has the potential of attracting more ppl, the visibilty is there, and moreover G Club's initia goal of "campaign for a lane" was from G Hotel to T Bahang?
What we can do is to alter the routine to make the ride more interesting. Why don't we have nice breakfast in Teluk Bahang? Each member pay RM10 and we get a caterer to setup buffet breakfast at the dam !?

I fully support we must maintain the trademark of G-Club.
No Eiffel Tower No Paris
G-Hotel to Teluk Bahang = G-Club!!!
No Trademark No G-Clud.
