It is holiday season and I could not get up this morning for an early morning ride so I decided to try 10 rounds of Pearl Hill tonight instead. Managed 1hr and 49mins. Ride was good but very slippery due to recent rain.
Shaving 5 minutes off Dr Lim's 3 months old record is sensational
! Your new time of 1 hr 49min will be really hard to beat, I believe. Looks like Dr Lim is your only real challenger. What about our triatheletes? Daniel Lee ? The heat is on !
Anyone who wants to do the challenge can borrow the GPS from Susumu-san (hp 016 4520586)
That was good Denzel and you have set the challenge to a new level !!! Will inform Daniel to update the new Champion !!!.
Solitary ride today. Where is everybody???? Burnt 1051 cal, time 1 hr 05 minutes. Susuman has got the GPS and training very hard for the Pearl Hill 10 rounds.
Started at 6.30 pm, Didnt realised it gets pretty dark by 715 pm. Today surprisingly not many cyclists. Half expecting to see Soo BEng but missed him.
Dear Dr.and DMB,
Please do remember there are always someone who is always watching, wishing and be prepared
to challenge your new record when ready. From this point of view, it is so nice to see a new record
on G-club website who can tell us what is going on.........!
Old saying,,,Why you climb the mountain ? the answer is,,,,because there is a mountain.
Let's enjoy a Peal Hill ride..
Susumu
Haha Susumu, looks like you will break the PH challenge record soon !!
Maybe we should have some kind of reward for the record holder?? A challenge trophy? A medal? What about putting up a sign or board at the start and end? and inscribe the record holder's name and time?
I suddenly realised that this is the first challenge of it's kind in Penang !!! first in Malaysia???
Dear Daniel
It might be a good idea to putting up a sign or board , with record holder's name ,date and time
so that many riders can recognize it, and we may have more challenger in the future.
Witout trial, no one can appreciate it's record, and will also be a good idea to challenge of it's
kind in Penang, fist time in Malaysia.
As you recall ,Daniel, through "CFAL "tryal, we are aiming to make Penang as " a Riding paradise "
in Malaysia in the very near future.
Many thanks for your brilliant and unique idea !!
Susumu
Hi Denzel, I think you could still shave off a few minutes from the time. Have seen you ride, you are quite a fast and strong rider but agreed 10 rounds are tough. To do it, on that day you must be at either end of a bipolar disorder. i.e either very depress or extremely happy!!! A normal mood cyclist will go Tlk Bahang
Our chairman Dr Lim today broke the PH record pipping the old record by 1 minute !!
Congratulations Dr ! We will wait for your posting of your GPS record before officially announcing you as the new champion !
THE HEAT IS ON !!!
All the cycling buddies on the way to seremban and most of the rest looking resting for tomorrow Bahang ride. Took my look 386 and look 10 rounds. Managed 1 hour 54 minutes. Downhill is still a problem. Dare not to speed because my previous crash. Max speed is only 47 kph.
Well done Dr, I don't think I will be trying to find that 1 minute any time soon. 10 rounds is tough!
Hi all hillers,
How about if one day we have a gathering at the foot of Relau Hill and start an unofficial TT ride to the top of Jalan Tun Sardon. If it had a good number of participant, we can start an official TT ride uphill. How SGA, that is on your territory.
There has been a "race" or some sort by some of us since Raya on the route you mentioned. It is also for those to prepare themselves for the coming UCI's KOM/QOM event in Simpang Pulai.
So far, the shortest time clocked is 3 hours and 54 minutes. The start/finish line is at Mc Donald Gurney. Total distance is about 103km.
You are welcome to join the fun.
Here is the route:
Gurney drive traffic light - Tanjung Bungah - Tlk Bahang - Titi Kerawang - Balik Pulau - Genting - Sungai Ara - Paya Nibung - Tun Sardun - Balik Pulau - Sungai Rusa - Titi Kerawang - Tlk Bahang - Batu Ferringhi - Tanjung Tokong - Gurney drive traffic light.

Thanks Alan for the pHotos , have use the Simpang Pulai way a few times but dont remember that it is as steep as your photos. Did you make it more dramatic ??. Start to feel a bit queasy think of the ride. Are there any flat terrains or is it all the way uphill for the 50 plus Km. Noticed there is only one water station halfway and along the way if I remember there is no shops/makan place where you can top up your water supply. So even if you have the $$ you may go thisrty and drink your own salt/sweat like Daniel/ susumu/ wusolow / gerald gang recently. Standard 2 bottles of drinks enough??
Hi Dr.
Just for everyone who want to challenge this ride, I wish to provide following informations.
" 3 bottles of water, 4-5 evergy bar, some peanut, and salt are essential ".
I went there with 2 bottle of water, and nothing to eat. and i found 2 bottle of water was not
enough, though I got some extra soft drink from Gerald. On the way to Cameron Highland,
we could find only suvenior shop where we could buy coke only, no water. besides
we luckly found a ice cream seller on the motor bike. I cannot forget how delicious it was !
Besides,Daniel gave me one small package of peanut that was also unforgettable one.
I was also going to have a cramp, because I found all my salt were gone from my body,
so salt is also essential.
I do hope above informatin may help for those who is going to challenge KOM........
I am now started to think it will be my next good challenge to enjoy " a magnificient view "
Susumu
If you were referring to the photos I posted in FB, they were taken when I was driving along that stretch few weeks ago. The profile was created using the GPS tracklog which was taken in 1 sec interval and the gradient was calculated using the same GPS tracklog(% gradient = (alt in meter / horizontal distance in meter) x 100%).
The data speaks for itself though. You will have to decide youself if it were doable at your current physical condition(which I don't think you have any issue at all!)...:)
If you require the raw data, I can send it to you.
Sorry delay in posting it. My garmin finally working. Looking at the terrain and the gradient graph it is not too bad. Even though it is a constant climb if u examine the graph carefully there are downslope intermittently where you can catch yr breath.
Join the PMPS annual 7 Km run from Jesselton to Botanical garden. Real torture to run............how our body adapt. only 0ne year ago was still running marathons now 7 Km also kaki sakit , knee pain , sole pain etc etc. Supposed to join the triathlon grp at 8 am for a round island ride but later we do a fast spin to Batu Maung and back. Wow was so glad to be on the saddle again after the run.
