Heavy vehicles barred !

ROAD signs to prevent heavy vehicles from using a shortcut from Tanjung Bungah to Mount Erskine Road through the winding and narrow Jalan Lembah Permai-Jalan Fettes in Penang have been erected to warn the drivers to avoid the route.
The two road signs, placed some 400m from each other, have been placed along Jalan Lembah Permai.
Tanjung Bungah assemblyman Teh Yee Cheu said he hoped the drivers would take note of the notice and avoid using the road as a shortcut.
“The presence of heavy vehicles including trailers along the road is endangering the lives
of road users there,” he said on Thursday.
The road is popular among Tunku Abdul Rahman College students and residents with small cars in the area, he added.
“However, it is dangerous for motorists to ply the narrow and winding road with the presence of the heavy vehicles,” he said.
Teh also called on the Road Transport Department and police to mount road blocks in the vici-nity to book errant drivers who refused to comply with the road signs.
