A perfect day for ride round island. No sun until the last leg after Tk Bahang break.
As mentioned by Daniel, only rained for a short while before reaching Tropical Fruit Farm.
Ride started on schedule at 7am fm Tg Bungah with Michael joining me and Lee. Dr had to head over to hospital to do his round.
Picked up Jonathan and Daniel @ Gurney Drive. No one at Fort Conwaliis roundabout. Proceed to pick up Cheong opposite E Gate and Anand @ Queensbay.
Slow and easy all the way to Tk Kumbar for nasi lemak, toast & half boiled eggs !!!
Dr joined us at KFC Balik Pulau after another short break before proceeding to Tk Bahang.
Whole journey took 5.5 hours and covered a distance of 80km...
Salute to Michael, Cheong, Anand and Johnathan for finishing the ride.
Next Sunday, G Club will take a break to join in Heritage Ride...
Dear Derailer,
We do ride in the evening. but the problem is, we do not pre-plan too far ahead as most of us do not really have a fixed time back from work.
We usually plan about 2 hours ahead and just ride from Hillside to town. Our favourite stop, "Padang" for ice kacang !! Talk a bit of c**k and bull stories and off we go again back to Hillside.
Probably you should leave yr contact with us and we will send sms if there is any night ride and how we link up along the way.
Glad you are also interested to become a "Night Rider" !!
Cheers.
Ipoh Century ride do not stop for durians !!! Our Sunday ride do.
Besides, we are aiming for next year's Tour de France... since gonna have legs and bodyache, might as well choose the best and toughest ride !! *grin*
So next year, you will see team ASTANA or COLUMBIA on top of the standings, you'll find team G Club way down below and struggling a few stages behind !!!
Set a plan to join one of the local club rides, i.e.:
Penang Fellowship Ride - 2 days ride. Day one: 160km mainland. Day two: Round island
Ipoh Century Ride - one day 160km ride
PCC Interstate - three days 350km ride.
Rain or not, i think we should just go ahead.
I hope the rest who had decided to join in will do the same even if it rains. After last Suturday's wait, both legs real "itchy" for action.
Hope 'look368' would arrange for "durian party" in Balik Pulau !!! What say you Doc ??
Dear Captain,
I really like what you said. Rain or not, just do it. always stick to the plan. Life ain't that long. I'm thankful i'm still alive today. I'm always outstation in the weekend, but i'll find a day to ride with you all. I used to ride everyday, in the evening and at night. everyday, and alone. i'm so happy to see your enthusiasm. have you all thought about riding in the evening ? or even at night ? let me know if you do ok. because i'd love to do that. it must be very nice to ahve some pals to ride along...
keep rolling
I start my weekday alternate day solo ride at around 5.30pm~6.00pm. My route is P. Tikus - Tlk Bahang roundabout. Wave if you see me...:)
We will hv mee udang at teluk Kumbar instead. Balik PUlau durian season over already. Now left all the Thai durians which I took back a few to Lee's place last week and my Balik Pulau friend is right......Taste like potatoes.
The last round island ride with Daniel and gang we stopped for prawn mee at tlk Kumbar. Taste good, maybe because we were hungry, tired and after rain.
Overslept lah. So I did a 2.5hours ride from P. Tikus to Titi Kerawang and back. Total distance: 60km...:)
Ride was good. Rained when we started the ascend to T Bahang but only for a short while. Stopped at 3 places for food and drink. Dr joined us at Balik Pulau after breaking off from his trialthalon pack. No durians but lots of fun !
Rain or shine also ride, that's the spirit of roadies!
You guys should join Ipoh Century Ride!
Cycling in the rain can be quite fun...
I did a round island myself one Sunday, and it was raining cats and dogs when I was at Genting going to Bayan Lepas.
The only risk is stones, debris and oil on the road, otherwise ok
Dear Dan,
i got one word for you today. HARDCORE. it's true, why should we be worried about the rain or the sun ? they are sources of life. We should be celebrating them instead.
Ride on.
From Jelutong coastal highway to Bayan Lepas, pass Queensbay, go along Bayan Lepas highway to Batu Maung ?? I believe those staying in Bayan Baru and Bayan Lepas can join us at Queensbay? Kapitan?
Yes, we will make it a point to pass by Queensbay in order to "pick up" more riders if there is any.
In fact, a rider told me he (and others??) will be waiting for our group at the road side stall opposite E Gate.
For those who wants to join in but do not know where to wait, just look for a group of cyclist along Jelutong H'way and ask if they are G Club Cyclist going round island ride and ride along.
My only worry is the rain !!!
