Tour bike, new or second hand
I am looking for a good tour bike, new or second hand.
A bike that I can load up in the bus or train or plane and can take me long distance comfortably. Know of anyone selling this kind of bike? Or any idea of which brand or model I should buy? Appreciate your help, thanks in advance.

hi daniel,
If want to bring up buses/trains a standard road/mtb/hybrid/tour bike definitely not possible. You probably need a folding bike, take a look at this link.
www.dahon.com
- speed pro tt
I like it, it says 15 sec to fold up this bike !! http://www.dahon.com/us/speedd7.htm
I have heard of folding bikes but I must admit that I have a mental block for foldable this and that ! Now that I have had a look at the site, the bikes look professional and durable... Maybe I should start to look at some real folding bikes. Know of any shop in Penang selling this Dahon bikes?? Thanks.
I' ve yet to see any Dahon folding bike in Penang bike shops. Mostly are Polygon(Lerun) folding bikes, price around RM600 to above RM1k. They don't look that appealing as the Dahon and the quality is definitely not as good.
My boss bought his Dahon speedster from KL. You can try calling up Rodalink. I don't have their no. but you can try searching in the net.
Dear Daniel,
There is a kind of bike that looks like a mountain bike, but it is not because it's frame is not made to put in the fat tire of mountain bike. it is fixed with smaller wheel. the bike looks slim and light enough to carry from place to place. it's a kind of hybrid.
you probably don't want to get a mountain bike to do this job because it is slow. for travelling you need something that is smooth. something you can ride with ease so that you can ride for long hours and travel far. a racing bike is not good too because of it's skinny tires. so you have to have something has the best of both world. go for a hybrid ok. shop around. you will probably get a brand new one with just around RM600.
i got to say this to you mate. you're a real biker.
your friend.
Second hand bike for sale !!
Can I advertise my old bike for sale here in your site?? If so what are the restrictions and requirements?
I know a place that you can post your bike for sale. It is run by a local bike enthusiast from KL. This is the url: http://bicyclebuysell.com/
honestly, we would not encourage it. besides, you are not "special user" & i am not too sure if you are able to upload your bike's photo or not.
and by allowing you to do that, a lot of other would be following and this website will end up to be another "buy / sell" website, away from our original intention of creating awareness, discussions and having fun riding together.
hope you understand.
p/s. there are lots of other website which allows you to post it for free to sell yr bike.
Cheers, Captain
Hey, a forum is for exchange of information and buying and selling of bikes is a typical example of such exchange. If you like, it is like pinning a sticker in the supermart or university notice board, no more than that. In fact by allow this form of exchange you will get more traffic and probably stir more interest in your site... think about it, theres great potential for gclub to tap into this exploding interest of bicycles in Penang ! dua sen lah ! cheerio!
OK, hybrid is the answer, thanks a lot for your advice Derailer.
After using the Polycon tour bike for a while, which is comfotable for long distance ride, I have now switched to a racer. I am now looking for something in between, which I believe is what you have just described to me, a hybrid.
I like the recer because it's so light, i can lift it up over dividers, curbs and stairs easily. It's fast. But in terms of road handling in town, I find that the tour bike is more versatile and safer to use.
I now am looking for a bike that is light enough to carry up and down buses, trains, comfotable enough to withstand long distance rides and robust enough to withstand being tossed in the lagguage compartments of buses and trucks.
