It is not a race! - A Ride With CM
I thought so too! But when the road cleared up, The riders infront started to speed up. I found later when I checked my GPS tracklog that I was chasing after them with constant speed of 35~43kph on Jelutong Highway!
The profile of the ride. There are two section of the climbs that have a slope gradient of more than 4%.
Total distance: 75,24km
Time: 2 hours 43 minutes
Average speed: 27.7kph
Kudos for G-Group for a ride well done. It was well organized and marshalls were helpful in managing the traffic.
One observation, the sharp turn tp Jln Sungai Nipah after the downhill. I nearly hit the marshal if I have not stopped in time!
Oh and I saw a small mishap at the Jln Tanjung Tokong and Jln Sipu Lala junction that involved a car and one of the riders I knew, skywalker. Thank god he was ok!

I was ok , just a few scratches on my thigh and knee but my bike was quite badly scrathed. Luckily my brake was working well as i jammed my brake when i saw this Blue Proton Exora suddenly turned left into Subaidah along jalan Tg Tokong from middle lane without signalling , The rider behind me saw it too and he was shouting ..but too bad it was too late . I got up quickly and just wan2 continue and finish the ride , Now think back , Sigh! should have asked for some compensation for my bike from the driver as he also acknowledged his fault without seeing me and without signalling and turned left into my path . Anyway ..overall very enjoyable ride and very very well orgainsed event .
I did not manage to catch up with you and your wife after the ride. I was sitting near to the finishing line catching up my breath.
Anyway, glad to hear you are ok and sad to hear that your precious ride was scratched! As a fellow rider I feel your pain!
I got to know about it when I was browsing my facebook. Apparently this lady rider tumbled, somersaulted, her Colnago flew over her head and landed on the ground on saddle standing up. Must be quite an acrobatic stunt.
I saw her arrived at the Town Hall. But I was too tired to greet her and just saw her coasting by.
Otherwise some minor scratches, she was ok. But I really really feel the pain of what happended to her Colnago. *ouch* *ouch* *ouch*
This incident truly reflect that we do indeed need a bicycle lane !!!
i was kinda shocked n worried when i read Turbo's report about you involved in an accident.
i did not notice any difference when i talked to you after the ride. i guess i was more concerned about participants having enough food, drinks, collected their jersey and enjoyed their ride than anything else. sorry for not being observant enough.
thinking back, now i know why Ginefly had to collect yr bento box !!!

Thanks for ur concern, i am ok .Me and my wife would like to thank all the commitee members for organising such an enjoyable event . Looking forward for more of this . I totally agree with you! It was a race from beginning till the end...!
Theres a tendency for riders to push themselves to the front. But honestly I've never felt the atmosphere of a race of any kind. Perhaps it was those 10% at the front.
Except for my cramped leg, the ride was perrrfect - came in exactly 3 hours
You cant help but to push in an event like this and the profile of riders are so varied and noticed a very high percentage of competitive riders and teams of riders from riding clubs. The faster was about 2 hours . So DAniel you are very good. Xiamen cycling does help.
WE the organisers only regret is not able to join the ride but the joy of seeing fellow riders appreciating the ride but most importantly getting our messaage across to improve the safety in bicylce riding.
2 hours round island? That's >37kph average. Pro level, tip my hats off!
Btw, I did see one photographer going in and out of the peloton to take pictures. There was on Jelutong Expressway and we were riding at fast pace forty plus click an hour. Their enthusiasms in taking pictures are commendable but do take note that at that speed if something happens, it will bring the whole peloton down with it.
Maybe in future the photographer should be briefed about the safety of the peloton.
