G Club preparing for big event !
Email communication by leader of G CLub Dr Lim with YB Law 12/6/2009...
Hello YB Law,
My name is Mr Lim Seh Guan from the G Club Penang Cyclists. As per my discussion with Ms Carolyn Ooi, your personal assistant, I am now duly writing in to you to highlight you on our event.
We a group of avid cyclists who are in the midst of organizing a big bicycle ride, hopefully exceeding 500 riders and the CM will then have to come ride with us. This was the challenge that was given to us during our presentation to YB Chow and YB Lydia Ong at the KOMTAR office recently. We also had a recent press conference regarding this event at the G hotel.
We have scheduled our ride on the 18th october, 2009 and we have 2 categories of ride; the 15 Km Fun ride, aimed at novice riders and families; the 80 Km round island ride, aimed at seasoned riders. For the seasoned riders we hope to promote the ride to cyclists from Singapore right up to Haatdyai. Upon completion of the round island ride, the cyclists will be awarded a riding jersey each with the word " Penang Round Island Ride - Finisher" which the participants can be proud of. In view of the national and international nature of this event we feel that your department could provide invaluable service to us in terms of promoting it as a tourism event.
We hope that the response will be good and our challenge to get the CM to come ride with us and most importantly our sole aim of having a bicycle lane from Gurney Drive to Teluk Bahang will be fulfilled.
In the event that the ride is a runaway success, your department could further manage it into an annual national/international cycling calendar event on par with the PIBM ( Penang International Bridge Marathon). Penang would then have a big running and cycling event that will boost tourism.
I would be more then ready to enlighten you further on the event if you are able to spare me some of your valuable time.
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Lim SG.
P.S; On a different note. I was one of the marathoner for the 2008 PIBM, my running partner is a seasoned runner who nearly collapsed on the return leg of the bridge because of the water issue. I am so glad that you have taken great steps (road shows, timers, and getting hotels to sponsor water stations!) to further enhanced this prestigious sporting event. I am sure the 2009 run would be great. Thank you.
