anyone from air itam will goin to join T.Bahang ride for tmr..
I might be doing the Tun Sardun and Paya Terubung climbs or another metric century ride on that day too. Lets see how it goes.
During our ride back from Lembah Bujang, we saw this bike shop near ferry terminal. I believe the shop's name is Seow Beng Hoo. Address is No. 3538, Jalan New Ferry,12100 Butterworth. Any of you been to this shop ? If yes, do they sell those normal bike parts or higher grade stuff ? The shop was closed since it was Sunday. So didn't get to check it out.
Rgds,
Melissa
Hi Melissa,
i went to the shop that we passed-by during the Lembah Bujang trip at Butterworth. The shop name is Sri Maju. The shop more like a normal bike shop than offer anything fancy. They do carry some MTBs (Raleigh body frame, Shimano crankset) and a few road bike with price range RM1000~1300. They also carry some bike accessories. On the bright side, the "wireless" cyclometer is about RM70~80 if compare to 1~2 shops that i've visited on Penang island at RM120~140 price range. The seat & frame bag is about RM25~35 range. Short finger glove is RM30~40 range.
rgds,Poh Lee
I was busy attending clients this morning and rushed back to office afterwards. Should have visited the place. But to see someone else has...;)
Melissa,
If you go to our forum under Bicycle shops, you see that I have added the new shop to the list.
This list is for the mutual benefits of both members and the small bicycle operators. And I believe we should keep expanding the list, impartially. If our site gets lots of traffic in future, we can always turn to this for advertising revenue and the money can then be channeled to finance gclub's activities.
Can't help you much about the cycle shop, Melissa. Anyway thanks for the contact.
Regards,
DShee
Dear special users,
Just to let you know that you have the full permission to insert and edit the Bicycle shop forum. So if you come across any new shops, don't bother to ask for permission, just add the new shop to the list. Many thanks in advance.
Regards,
Dshee
Hi Melissa,
i plan to visit this bike shop tomoro. If you have anything specific in mind, feel free to let me know. Since i'm know very little about bike, i'm not sure i can tell whether they are offering any higher grade or genuine stuff or not. I will provide some update after visit the b'worth bike ship tomoro.
rgds,Poh Lee
Hi PohLee,
I don't have anything specific in mind. It will be nice to know more bike shops and what they have to offer in case required in the future....Thanks for the offer anyway.
p/s : I hope you won't "ter-buy" a new bike tomorrow ....hehehe....
Rgds,
Melissa
ha! My wife is follow me to the bike shop. She will split me into half if i buy a new bike ..... :-)
Dear Poh Lee,

rgds,poh lee
I stayed in New Ferry Road when I was a kid. I don't recall there's any high end bike shop there. If it is, it must be new.
I'll keep my eyes on it if I pass over the weekend and will ask around.
Dear chicken,
which part of penang are u staying? Sg.Ara? Relau? Bkt. Jambul??
If you plan to cycle to gurney next month for G Club ride,i will join you.
cheers
seng chiang
me at sg. ara
Just remember, Jan 9 and 10 got Penang 12hr walk. Most probably cannot ride Tlk Bahang that weekend. Me not like ironman Stingray, can ride round island 2 days in a row. Maybe let wifey ride that month if she is game to go Tlk Bahang again.
See how, too early to confirm. Maybe I cabut early from the 12hr walk and go Tlk Bahang ride. Need to complete at least 24km for charity to fix babies' heart.
Chicken,
12hrs walk??? sound intresting....How do i get this event detail????
chia
can't find official website, only reported by running blogs/sites. here's the form, http://h1.ripway.com/ahariss/Form/Penang12HrWalk.pdf
Note: I am not promoting running/wallking on a cycling website. Providing this form because a user requested more info on the event.
Dear fellow riders,
If you feel that the teluk bahang ride is too short or not enough Emm... Why not join us for a round island ride after Teluk Bahang. Enjoy the ride.....
Hope to see you all, Ray
Hi G'day,
Those who will be cycling along the round island route this Sat morning will have to watch out for the Pesta Race. The peloton consists of local, national, Singaporean riders may cross path with you and you are expected to give way. The best place to view the race will be at the zinc durian hut at the bahang/titi kerawang peak. The crit will be held in Explanade on Sunday morning.
Cheers ( Ride Safe, Live Strong )
sk
Dear Ray,
Re:Sunday ride(13th Dec ).
It sounds good, and wish to follow your plan, say, continue to go around island.
Re:Saturday ride.(12th Dec.)
I would prefer to take a day off on this ride, because since last Saturday,
I have had a bad coughing, and have been away from swiming as well since then.
However Sunday ride might be all right.because I have already got recoverd 90 %.
Best wishes,
Susumu
Ok Raymond, Sunday, we go round island but it may be quite tedious going the other way (anticlockwise). Are you familiar with the route? Otherwise we go Pantai Acheh or Pulau Betong and Up the Biro Tata Negara way, That would be about round island too. Maybe better, less traffic
Dear Look,
As I'm currenly staying in Green Lane, I think balik pulau --> Teluk Kumbar --> Airport --> Green Lane route will be more appropriate for me. But If the rider staying in Tanjung Tokong, Tanjung Bungah, I think going to Pantai Acheh or Pulau Betong will be more appropriate for them.
Hope to see you all, Ray
hi stingray,
plan to join you and gang do round island after tlk bahang & tropical fruit farm but will head to sg. ara after the airport. from airport to greenlane, which route you taking?
airport -> batu maung -> intel/queensbay(coastal road) -> greenlane, or
airport -> jln sultan idris -> bkt jambul roundabout -> gelugor -> greenlane, or
airport -> sg ara -> bkt jambul(pisa) -> jln yeap chor yee -> greenlane, or
airport -> bkt gedung -> bkt jambul(pisa) -> jln yeap chor yee -> greenlane
understand that you are a season and experience round islander but incase there are 1st time riders plan to do round island anticlockwise and decide to take coastal and jelutong highway.
1st route very dangerous especially those riding back to tg. bungah. 3 or 4 Y junctions from coastal road starting from intel/queensbay till entering jelutong highway. not recommended.
best to ride round island is clockwise, if anticlockwise stay away from coastal and jelutong highway.
Dear Chicken,
The first route is definately not recommended because it's too hot and too many crazy drivers there. I would recommend on the 2nd route because I prefer flat road as everybody will be very tired after a long ride. We can ride on the 3rd route but we will goto bukit jambul roundabout to avoid another small climb in yeap choy yee road. I will try to make the route as easy as possible. We just want ride for fun. The average speed will be about 20km/h. I will wait for the slow rider. For those who feel comfortable, they are welcome to ride all the way home. I know that some people when they heard about 'round island', this will turn them off. I hope that after this ride, more cyclist will be motivated for a round island ride.
Note: I'm using a MTB with sleek tyre.
Hope to see you all, Ray

hi sc & fudge
plan to start 6:30am cycle from sg. ara to g hotel.
this is my first time cycling to g hotel and join the rest to tlk bahang. I dunno how' s my fitness condition but hope no need to call backup. only did once round island with captain back in july which took >6hrs.
Dear chicken,
which part of penang are u staying? Sg.Ara? Relau? Bkt. Jambul??
If you plan to cycle to gurney next month for G Club ride,i will join you.
cheers
seng chiang
hi,
i will be cycling there
turbo had informed me earlier that he might not be around for this month's G Club mtb ride and suggested that i took over for once.
i will have a discussion with Sifu and others and see which will be the best route to go and post it up.
will post the event in due time.
cheers/captain
Dear turbo,
Thanks for the suggestion.
I somewhat felt 'kesian' when I look back at the pictures of Lembah Bujang trip. The guys were really putting on a brave smile for the camera. In the back of their minds they must be thinking that if they don't smile for wusolow, they might probably end up in 'Hor land' Don't know where we are, took us to so ulu place some more .....hehehe
Well lesson learnt. This time this will be another one of those leisure rides. I'll be going by way of Kubang Semang and on the return leg via Jalan Berapit, BM town and B'w jetty.
Cheers,
wusolow
yes mate, the scorching sun bad for the riders. dun wanna be a roast chicken. prefer short road rides like tlk bahang and easy mtb trail with cooler environment.
Dear chicken,
Yes you're right. But we won't be cycling the perimeter of the dam that's for sure.
Thanks again.
Cheers,
wusolow
Maybe you can consider this route back to ferry terminal. Except the Route 1, the rest is qoute scenic...:)
http://www.pbb.com.my/node/389
That route really looks like it had been abandon,I wonder wusolow will speed by and bye bye to me and hello jungle and (where am I rite now??!!) to me..(just joking, hope he is not that kind of man)
Dear wusolow,
Thanks for explaining all comment, thanks.Anyway, see you then.
regards
seng chiang...
Is anyone in 18th of December working? I and wiusolow going to mengkuang dam, anyone going too?
Hi Seng Chaing,
Yes I would like to join this ride, please let me have the details.
Where is it located and how many hours ride ,etc ?.
Thank you very much for your assistance !
susumu
wusolow, sengching, wususumu,
if you plan to cycle into the gates of mengkuang dam please check if they allow bicycles to go in. i drove there in November and saw a signboard stating no bicycles and pets, only walkers/joggers can go into the perimeter of the lake and dam.
Dear susumu,
I think wusolow is planning a Menguang Dam Ride for the next ride. Hopefully, he can post on the event for more details.
Best Regards, Ray
Dear Ray & Susumu-san,
This is actually an impromtu ride which I suggested to seng chiang in reply to whether most of us are available on the 18th Dec.'09.
I HAVE NO INTENTION OF PUTTING THIS UP IN THE UPCOMING EVENTS COLUMN. Firstly, I believe not many of us are available on that day as it's not a Sunday.
AGAIN I HAVE NO INTENTION OF MAKING THIS A SUNDAY RIDE EITHER BECAUSE OF THE IMPENDING FIRST LAUNCH INSTALLATION OF OUR BICYCLE EMBLEM WHICH OUR CHAIRMAN WILL BE ANNOUNCING SOON.
I'll be doing a recce after this Sunday's Teluk Bahang ride. So if you have time to spare (the rest of the day I mean) you can join me. I do not have the details like the duration, distance, etc at the moment, that you will have to wait until the recce is done.
Yeah, that's about it at the moment.
Cheers,
wusolow
Dear Wusolow & Ray,
Thank you for your comment on this above.
Now everything is clear to me .
On Dec.13, after the ride to Teluk Bahang ride, If my condition is all right. then I will come
with you.
Thank you again for your quick responce as usual.
Susumu
Konnichi wa Susumu-san,
I'm going to map out the route on Sunday. The actual ride with seng chiang is on the 18th Dec.'09. But you are always welcome to join me at anytime.
Arigatou gozaimasu,
wusolow
Dear Wusolow
Ohayou gozaimasu !
Many thanks for your kind offer.
I will join the ride on Dec.18th after all.
Arigatou gozaimasu.
Susumu
Dear Wusolow,
I don't think I can make it because I'm quite busy on the week of christmas & New year ..
May be Poh Lee or seng chiang will join you... I will try get one of my butterworth friend to join you. He's a newbie...
Best Regards, Ray
Ok, I am supposed to organize a ride on the 18th at Gertak Sanggul.
But I may not be able to excuse myself from my obligotary responsibility as a loving hubby and father on that day. *ahem*
I'll see how it goes. Most probably I'll let Captain to think of something(Right, El Kapitan?)
I plan to continue round Island after the ride since I'm staying at Bayan Baru area,I think it make no different either way back, do you think I need a sun block for the ride?
Dear Chrislai75,
I'm intend to do a round island after the teluk bahang ride, may be you could join us..
Hope to see you, Ray
Dear Ray,
I will join the group for round island, actually I never do a round island before, so I think it better to stick with he group...
