can anyone help me???
A couple of days ago,I tried to ask our friendly Wusolow, how to reduce the bicycle weight as I am now using a steel frame bike.I do have the energy to cycle but the problem is it is way toooooooooo heavy,i weight it with my digital bathroom scale and MY GOSH it is around 18kg.?!?!! 18 kg???? twice the weight of a mountain bike. Can anyone here teach me what to modify first in order to make the bicycle lightweight???
second question, which brake should i use, disc brake or hydraulic brake?? which one is better and doesn't fail when i need the most.just like the incident on Tuesday(26/01/10) my brake totally unable to brake and OH YEAH BABY,with the power of my pedaling force and downhill force in Bkt Jambul to relau that road.I lost control of my bicycle and speed downhill approx 75KM/H (cause I cut a EX5 which is at the speed of 70KM/H)and i think i am really lucky cause i did not get hit or smash into other vehicle.
ps;my brake is the rubber brake one.....
cheers guys,

Hi G'day,
If you prefer mountain bike, my opinion is XC hardtail is very versatile. Any proper brand like Trek, Scott, Kona, Cannondale should be suffice BUT, always be very careful about FAKE bikes. Check the internet first before pulling the trigger.
On the other hand, if u are keeping your old bike, make sure you have a decent group set i.e. Shimano XT or compatible. They are not very expensive but extremely reliable. If you like power and speed, it is a MUST.
Hydraulic discs brakes like HOPE or Shimano are of competition standard. You may wanna check it out.

Seng Chiang,
It is impossible to significantly reduce the weight of the 18kg bike to sub 10kg (like the good one). There is no comparison between good carbon fibre frame with professional standard group and wheel sets to those pedestrian bikes. That's why the good bikes are so expensive. Sorry, if you are using a good downhill bike (normally quite heavy).
Going downhill in public road at 75kph is not COOL at all. Unless you are trying to kill yourself. The professional and seasoned cyclists are doing it in the race and under full escort. Its NOT how FAST you can GO down the hill...BUT how fast you can STOP your bike when you need to stop......
Sorry, if I sound a bit blunt.
Cheers

Thanks for that information, going down that fast is not what i want to do,but is my V brake set wire 'putus' and have no choice to stop the bike but to cruise down and back home to ask your guys opinion on whether disc brake or hydraulic brake.YES,true about the fact that my this bike is very heavy and not good for riding uphill or MTB trail. So,your advice is to get a new bike which is good in something else rite??
