Dear Ray and Nightrider,
i will meet you guys at Kah Kean bicycle shop!
Dear Daniel,
Will see you there. It will be a fun ride...
RIDE SAFE....
Hope to see you all, Ray
Hello Stingray/Daniel,
Hi hi. Since Daniel is joining, I'm itching to ride too. What about Susumu-san, William and Peter Posh?
Since I don't have bicycle headlights, can I use CNY Lantern as it is a Chap Goh Meh ride? I will position myself in the middle of the group to be safe. Haha!
Happy cycling!
Dear Baby Husky,
Many thanks for your invitation to the above ride.
You know that I will be powerful rider in the morning, however in the nighttime,
I cannot expect to be a powerful rider anymore, so I have to give up
joining this ride. Please enjoy the lantern ride. Susumu
O
Hi Susumu-san,
Yes, I forgot you are a son from the Land of the Rising Sun. Haha!
Won't be riding too. Probably will be sound asleep by the time Stingray, Nightrider and gang cycle by my house. I remember waiting for him for a long long time last Saturday morning. Hahaha! I will never let him forget that.
Cheers and see you soon on your two wheels.
Tony
Dear Baby Husky,
Any lightings will be most welcome but bear in mind that we don't give any prize for the best Chap Goh Meh lighting decoration on the bicycle. If your bicycle have a carrier and your wife sit on the back holding a lantern. I don't think your wife complain about holding the latern all the way to round island...hahaha..
Cheers, Ray
Hi Papa Husky. U r a funny guy, do you know that? Got lots of funny ideas. Next time you can be G Club's Joke Master so that everybody can enjoy your jokes. I did not think of CNY Lanterns, you did. What a great idea!
Haha! You can talk now that you are so good at hill climbs. I am still struggling. And I am not allowed to cycle around Pearl Hill for reasons best known to myself.
From green lane will you be passing TESCO/Egate via Jalan Tunku Kudin or turning right at the roundabout into Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah ?? I am asking cos there are keen cyclists wanting to join from Jelutong Highway. It will be fantastic if you can outline the route in a google map or provide more details of the route. Let me know if you need my help with google map.. Thanks mate !
Dear Daniel,
We will pass bukit gambier to Bayan Baru to meet another cycling club. For those who are staying far from tanjung tokong, I would recommend we meet at Kah Kean Bicycle Shop at 9:30pm.
Hope to see you all, Ray
hi stingray,
i never round island before and own a foldie 16 inch, am i allow to join, i might bring 2 friends ( mountain bike and touring bike ) and an uncle ( 20 inch foldie ). Let me know as I am interested in night ride. thanks
Why don't you join us in our regular Pearl Hill ride? Tues, Wed, Thur 7-9am. We can give you some riding tips and this will allow you the opportunity to guage yourself to see if you are ready for the round island. As a Newbie, I would not suggest you going on the round island at night.
I agree with Daniel and Ray that, you must at least hv gone round island once during the day time before u think of doing at night. As it is road riding be it round island or otherwise is dangerous. You always hv to look out for crazy inconsiderate drivers and this is not made any better with our narrow road.
For that matter I think our trails reference is very useful. If you look at it round island is graded 4 which means it is quite strenous. Unless you hv tried grade 3 trail and feel comfortable you may ended a burden to the whole group of other riders and the worse scenario would be to sustain injury.
I strongly agreed that before trying the round island maybe go up Pearl Hill a feel round to get a feel of your capability and more importantly to get acquainted with your bicycle , changing of gears etc.
we want to ride safe
Dear look368 & daniel,
Is it possible to give another rating of night rides? As the night rides and the day rides are different in grading, maybe it would be wise to grade the trails during the nights as well. El Kapitan has gone for the night ride up Gambier and I believe it is totally different compared to the day rides.
As a newbie myself, it would be very beneficial if I come to know any risks or things I should look out for especially during the night compared to the days.
Just my dua sen worth...
Cheers!
nightrider
I think it's a good idea to rate and distinguish night from day ride. So bolih tolong update the Trails section kah? thanks in advance ! Don't worry about alignments or using right images or icons, I can later chip to fine tune, if necessary.
don worry, won be burden the whole group as i will go with 4 person including myself, if we cant carry on after bayan baru, we will turn back and we will have some one to pick us up if anyone of us injured or something like that. 2 of us tried air itam dam but not me as my bike only have 3 gears
Haha Thomas, you are a keen one.
Cycling round island is no joke. When you see the hills looming ahead you start to sweat even before you reach the first climb. And going downhill is no walk in the park. You have to apply your brakes before it is too late. And don't forget the corners.
So like the experienced riders keep on telling you, you must KNOW your bike and be familiar with the route.
And another piece of advice. Don't race on the road. Stick to your own pace and just try to keep up with the main group.
Good luck and enjoy yourself.
Thomas,
What husky said is true, cycling round island is really no joke.last Sat,i cycle from Sg. dua to Balik pulau,it really gonna get you sweating once you had already see the hill infront. One more thing, try to keep up with them, and lastly enjoy the trip and the view.
seng chiang
Dear Daniel,
I did not know that you all goto pearl hill on wednesday. I guess that Pearl hill will be full of cyclist in no time....hahaha
Cheers, Ray
No particular reasons just that Pearl hill looks like a good daily work out.
I was thinking if Newbies can come and ride with us it will be great. We will be able to get to know them better and offer them some tips and encouragement. Pearl hill is ideal place to build up your riding skills and stamina. The slope is gentle, roads are well tarred and its cool and quiet. We can chit chat at the top or have a cuppa at the kopi tiam opposite seven eleven. Pearl hill is truly a cycling haven!
Dear Thomas,
Personally I think that it's very dangerous for those who have never been to the round island ride before because it's a night ride and should have some idea about the terrain especially the asceding and decending on the hill. The maximum riding time will be roughly 4 hours. I hope that the ride will end before 1am.
If you want, you can follow us up to Bayan Baru or teluk kumbar.
Cheers, Ray
thanks ray for reply, just wondering is it off road or just normal tar road as my small wheel not able to go off road. if tar road i might join as there will be 4 of us, my uncle round island b4 though but not 3 of us. if it is too hard for us halfway we will turn back, no worries :)
Dear Thomas,
As the night ride is quite dangerous because our senses are not as good as daytime, so we decide to to use the tar road. Also we pick Chap Goh Meh to do the round island because this is time that you see the full moon and the road are not too dark. If there is someone in your group are willing to supervise or guide you, I think it should be fine. I hope you can understand...
Cheers, Ray
Hey Stingray,
Want me to wait for you at the junction in front of MARA as you come down from Teluk Kumbar? Not going to wait for you at Bkt Genting as you are always LATE. Hahaha!
I'll see if I can fix my torchlight on my handlebar. If can I will accompany you all up to Sg Pinang junction. Cannot continue on because I have to work on Monday. How come you guys all don't need to work wan?
I'll be wearing my Batman jersey.
Cheers!
Dear Baby Husky,
Is not that we are always late. But you are getting faster lar. You already promoted from Lazy Rider to Baby Husky..hahaha.. wait until you get to Papa Husky, we definitely have no change to follow you..hihi
I think it's would be better that when we reach genting restaurant, we sms you... just like when you see a BATMAN SIGN on the sky....The BATMAN Hero will come out and save the Night...hahah
Cheers, Ray
Hi Stingray,
I'll probably be Sleeping Husky by then. Hahaha! You sure you can sms in the dark meh? Will be fun joining you all at least part of the way, i.e. the Balik Pulau leg. It'll be at least 20 kms night exercise for me. Haha! But my bicycle got no lights, so unless you want to lend me some money? Hahahaha!
Happy Cycling!
Dear Webmaster,
I have added the round island event. Unfortunately the this event does not turn up on upcoming event section. Please advise me.
Many Thanks, Ray
Ray,
Not a bug after all. The reason it did not appear is because you set the SIGNUP to "Closed". I have turned on back to Open and it's showing now.
One more thing that needs to be fixed is the sort order of the events. When you click Event, it shows events in distant Dec 2010 ! By right it should show the nearest events.
Dear Daniel,
Thanks. I guess this solve the issue.
Cheers, Ray
Ray,
I did not realise that the Event and the Calendar screens look and feel so primitive.... I will get the coders to fix the bug plus pretty up the page. Thanks for the feedback Ray.
It shows on the calender but not on the upcoming event section. Could be due to config related again?
