Full Moon Round Island Ride, 27th March 2010
Dear members,
To all you night riding fans, the 2nd Full Moon Ride is coming. Get your blinkers and lights ready because we are going for an exciting ride. We will be joining other riders from Bayan Baru.
Event : Full Moon Round Island Night Ride
Date : 27th March 2010 (Saturday)
Meeting Place 1: 1915hrs in front of Island Plaza (Tg. Tokong)
Meeting Place 2 : 2000hrs at Petronas Green Lane
Meeting Place 3 : 2030hrs in front of Kah Kean bicycle shop. (Bayan Baru)

Estimated duration : 4hours
Distance : 72 km
Grading : 4 (due to the lack of lighting)
*Please register for the ride together with your phone number*
Pre-requisites :
1) Must be self sufficient i.e. (Spare tubes, pump, chain breaker)
2) Blinkers and good lighting is mandatory. (Front and back lights please)
3) Having a flourescent/reflective vest will be of advantage to visibility.
4) Must have experience riding round island AT LEAST ONCE.
5) Average speed on flat 20 - 25km/h
* Please note that there will be no Rela escorts. Riders join this ride at their own risk. Advise to ride in groups and keep to the group of your pace if you should fall behind. Also be prepared for a call for your backup in the event you cannot continue your ride. Safety is of primary concern.
Kindly contact me should you need further clarification.
As this ride is on a Saturday, I would like to point out of other factors i.e. (Mat Rempits) will be on the roads so be extra careful.
Most important : NO HELMET, NO RIDE

Please be very very careful on the Teluk Kumbar stretch, especially once past the foot of Bkt Genting Restaurant as you guys are going downhill. The four temporary traffic lights stops are badly coordinated and may not even function at all. The stretches are now longer and narrower and more winding. Even if you have a clear green to go don't rush forward as there may be some idiots coming from the other direction despite the red light at the other end. Please brief the front Rela outrider accordingly. This is the stretch I think where our friend Stingray had a mishap last Sun morning.
Don't think I will join the ride as my partner is in Tasik Kenyir taking part in a triathlon relay event. I am too chicken to cycle home alone and my eyesight isn't so good at night. Besides I don't have front lights, having returned my free set to Gary.
If you are taking the Jalan Bahru route, on coming down from the Teluk Kumbar road, you all will probably turn left into the road under the arch to Pulau Betong. Then go straight across at the crossroads, that will be Jalan Sungai Nipah. I shall wait there with my Siberian Husky to wave you guys past.................. if it's not raining. Haha! I think you all should reach there before 10 pm. I'll have to miss my EPL footie match but cheering on my cycling friends are more important.

Have received the details from Dr. Lim regarding the Rela Escort. There will be 2 motorcycles and a car to follow us around the island. The escort will start from 2030hrs from Kah Kean and ends there as well. More updates to come...
On 27/3/10 , 830 pm - 930 pm, it is Earth Hour. We are all suppose to switch off our lights for one hour. Well if people in Bayan Baru were to be very Earth conscious, you guys maybe cycling in pitch darkness. And beware of traffic because some may just take the opportunity to go "jalan jalan". but then your RELA will come in very handy will their motorbike and car. I suppose nightrider will brief them on what they are suppose to do

I have received some good news! I would like to know what your take is on Rela escorts during the full moon ride? We might be able to get that arranged for them to follow us round the island on Saturday. Of course, there is the question of payment. I will get to know the price after Dr. Lim consults with Rela on this matter. I understand that there will also be an option for a car to follow us. Maybe we can use the car as the mobile water station if the price is okay.
What do you guys think? We can share the cost with whoever is riding that night. Will keep you guys updated soon!

Rela on car will be good idea. Remember the last time when we tried to buy some water along the stretch between betong and acheh, only kopi and teh tarik, no water and no can drinks, quite unbelievable ! If the rela car can backup as water station, its one stone two birds!
Hello, I've opened a new drinks stall at Jalan Sungai Nipah Dua, opened 24 hours a day for cyclists only. Filtered clean water but bring your own water bottles. Haha!

I think it would be great to get the rela to escort for the night ride especially on the saturday night. Sometimes, you try to avoid this silly mat rempit, but they just simple come and love to kiss your MTB aka wife. Last sunday morning, I saw the mat rempit from far and I slowed down my MTB until almost completly halt, but this on coming mat rempit came very fast at the corner over taking another bike and hit on my side pedal. I was so lucky because my MTB almost halt at that time and I was prepared to jump bike.

last week i did about 700km and Sifu did more than 1400km.... so it's possible.

p.s. They supply you with KTM all orange mtbs. No joke.
If the pay is good and if they sponsor the KTM bikes, I don't actually mind lah ...

I love that bike too but what to do... the bike married liao. If you try just to walk near the bike, the husband will be staring at you like want to eat you alive. So that one is like someone else's beautiful wife. See can but don't talk too much about it.
Afterwards the husband's "boey khiau" to the sky one. Keep talking non-stop about the golden parts of the wife. hehehe
Then he go hill climbing on this bike too? Or only keep for exhibition like yesterday morning's slow lazy Sunday ride. What was missing yesterday was cool cold icy beers. hahaha!

You crazy man! You doing double round island on the same evening?
What time do you estimate you will pass through Balik Pulau? If you are not going at super speed I will meet you at the foot of Bkt Genting and ride with you up to Titi Kerawang depending on visibility. But nowadays it's still quite bright on my side of the island at 7.30 pm.
Also it must not be too hot when you reach Balik Pulau. Nowadays the sun can be scorching hot but it's also getting kinder as Cheng Beng draws closer.
Also ride carefully and safely and be mindful of the traffic especially at the traffic light sections where they are building the new Teluk Kumbar road. Some crazy motor cyclists don't stop even when the lights are red. Some cars too. So be very careful. Our friend Stingray suffered a slight mishap early yesterday morning at this stretch.

Hi guys. I am back into training and getting ready for the night ride this Saturday. I hope to be fit again to tackle the following stretches; Tk Kumbar-Bkt Genting, Titi Kerawang-Fruit Farm, Bt Ferringhi-Tjg Tokong. Having lost three precious weeks of riding due to hit-n-run accident sustained during 9th day o f CNY, I have since been longing to get back into action. I am preparing my bike for training and the ride and will see you guys there. Great to be back!

Please be reminded that the timing is not 2030hrs at Island Plaza but 1915 at island plaza. I will meet you at Petronas Island Glades at 8pm as we have to reach Kah Kean by 2030hrs. The timing is different as we have moved the time earlier by one hour so that Bayan Baru gang can finish earlier.

Webster, I don't think that will be a problem as the main group will be from bayan baru. During the last chap goh meh ride, i think there were about 12 riders from there out of 18 of us.
