This Sunday saw me in action in KL with a bunch of PCC riders. It was their training ride for the coming Ipoh Century ride. Since I was in KL for working trip I decided to bring my iron horse and joined them.
My friend, Vincent Lim picked me up at Damansara at 6.30am on Sunday morning and we were off to the meeting point, Centre Point in Bandar Utama. More than 20 riders showed up the ride. The ride started at 7.30am sharp. It was drizzing. Though it was a blessing to have cooler weather to ride, I found myself taking longer time to warm up. The peleton went up to the crusing speed of 30kmh very quickly and formed into two line profiles.
We finished the ride in 5 hours and 42minutes. My average speed was 25.3kmh. The terrain was mostly flat but very very windy. To make it worst, the return leg saw me struggling rolling hills. I not only fought the strong head wind while maintain my speed above 25kmh but also the thigh burning climbs!
Overall it was a fun ride and also my first metric century ride in seven years. It would even be nicer if it was 15km more to make it a full century ride!
Hi turbosnail. sorry i posted a message to you to get well earlier. I thought you are Ronnie Tan who had just bought a trek bike!!
I subscribed to the PCC newsletter as well. It is only a dream for me to ride with them. time not permitting.
Anyway the century ride would be a interesting ride. Unfortunately could not get any kaki from my immediate cycling group to go.
Hope u can join our Tlk Bahang ride.every second sunday It will be piece of cake for you. anyway you can always go ride to Balik Pulau and we slow riders will wait for you at Tlk Bahang kopitiam
Actually that is true. it's a solitary sport. Which is wonderful. I cycled a lot too. and i really enjoyed those time. cycling allows you to spend time with youself. Besides working hard on the pedaling. I did a lot of thinking too. It lets me recall things that i have missed. The whole experience is really wonderful. just sometime, i must admit that i'm quite lonlely riding alone.
Bicycle and riding a bicycle is very dear to me. There are no words to express it. I remember when i was in primary school. Very young at that time and everyday after school i would walked to the bicycle shop near by to ogle at those beautiful bicycles. Those BMX. They were so beautiful, so captivating. it might sounds funny to you. but if you could jsut imagine that feeling. that feeling of wanting it so much and not having it. I'm an adult now and i can afford many things but i've never craved for something like i've craved for those BMX. I like women very much, but even then.
And this shop owner would talked so highly about his bikes and made me drooled all over. Long story short, my grand father bought the bike for me. I was at cloud 10. If you have not been to cloud 10 then you wouldn't understand how i felt.
i remembered as a school boy. Me and my friends cycled to school everyday. and we raced and we laughed. I missed those time dearly. we would fixed a time and place to meet, and we rode to school together. We would sometime rode in the middle of the road when there is no cars. we'd quickly rode to the middle of the road and shout, "hOhhhhh....come along...it's my grand father's road...no police is gonna get you." and we laughed and we played and we rode along to school. and someone else would make another joke on his bike on our back later. it was wonderful......yes it was so wonderful. i have lost touch with some of them. and one of them has got brain tumour, and the other one has got some mental issue. very nice, well mannered people. sad cases.
but those moment when we were on the bikes. they last forever.
and that's why i said bicycling is very dear to me. when i rode my bicycle along that road sometime, i still hear our laughter. It's wonderful.

Sure. I'll see you guys on the coastal road. I'll see if I could ride this week. Thighs still sore...:(
Turbo is definitely no snail ! I thought the same too. But when I checked his email I reliased he is not Ronnie.
I am really a slow rider lah. Normally I do solo rides. Most of the time I go mountain biking.
You're a solo rider ? Bow that's HARDCORE.
