Oops..it's Giant
My very first folding bike arrived Penang yesterday.
It sized about 3' x 3' x 1' (width) after folding up.
I was amazed by the mono-stay technology and decided to get it imported to Malaysia at whatevercost. Irene was the one that help to take back this bike after her one week shopping maniad in Taipei. I told her to pay the duty if was stuck by the custom officer...
It was a lucky day yesterday when 4 flights arriving at the same time that forcing duty officers no time to look at the ppl luggages.. So dont ask me if this bike "kena" duty.
A standard foldie with 20" of wheel size and equipped with 7 speed. No front derailleur and the crank is fixed at 48 teeth (as according to the specs).
I have less knowledge on the bicycle stuff so cant describe much on the specs. Please googled for Giant Halfway 7S.
Let's see how it folds:
1) Lower seat post (noticed on the long seat post that almost touch to the floor. It served as middle stand to get the bike stay steadily after fold up)
2. Open the clip liked level.
3. Bend it
4. Loosen the stem that connect to the handlebar.
5. It's done. Ready to keep in your storeroom.

I cycled to Kuala Muda today with my Giant Halfway.
Tanjung Bungah view from Kuala Muda. (far blueish tone background)
---
It clocked me about 25km from ferry terminal to K Muda, average speed 18 km/h. Strong headwind at the stregth of airforce base, and also the last 2 km towards K Muda.
I didn't plan out for this trip. I didn't carry pump + spare tube + water bottle.
Overall trip was enjoyable, except I should have done this in early hour, and not 11-3pm ride.
Sexy tanning.
Anyone knows how much is the price for Giant Halfway 817 folding bike ? I'm interested with it ! Thanks...
Gave it a first try today cycled from my house (opposite YeeHong foodcourt in LipSin) to office in Bayan Bay. It took me 10 min for this < 2km ride.
The overall experience was relax as flat road along the way, except to go over an overhead bridge across the coastal highway that gave me challenge.
see, the foldie sitting nicely at one corner inside the office.
-----
I used to own roadie and MTB.
Anyone still have the idea of a motorcross track at Teluk Bahang???
I used to "skill-test" myself at this track, and later just thrown my MTB to the river across the street(14th mile?) to clean up..
Both track and the river were located at the current t.bahang dam site.
----
I have stoped cycling since yr 1993...
...I come back again today to start from a 20" foldie. (same like to start again in primary BMX bicycle size)
Nice bike. Quite tempted to get one. Anyway, I'm not sure about folding bikes, but if I'm not mistaken, you don't have to pay tax if you bring in a complete bike. I bought my road bike from Singapore, and didn't have to pay any tax.
Hi twy, road bikes are duty free but mtbs are taxable. The rationale is road bikes are for competetive sports while mtbs are for leisure riding. We have to change the Finance Ministry's mindset. Don't know about folding bikes though.
husky baby is right about the mtb taxable
bikepro boss did mention in the cycling magazine. mtb taxes are higher.
road bike is considered sports equipment but not mtb. weird huh!
hi eng cheong,
you can get this bike here, at kah kean, oze cycle, pink bike or jalan perak opposite gas station one. its around 15XX ringgit malaysia.
l gila foldie one, my uncle own giant tallerway and i ride dahon curve d3, 2 of my friend into mini velo ( thats what the call small wheel usually 20 inch bike ) like sinic sense, hopefully one day we can ride together, it would be cool to see more small wheel society here, lol.
by the way bike friday is very expensive, brake i heard not so good. the best one is pacific cycle Reach, brompton is the best for it fold size, for racing u might want to look into dahon pro tt or airnimal.
cheers,
Hi Thomas , jack here . Wanna ask you where did you got your Dahon Curve D3 ? I'm hopping to get one but don't know where to get it . So please let me know . Thanks...
Oh I thought this model not yet come here.
Halfway was started in yr 2008, started with the first series of FD 17S, 2009 changed to FD 7S, and 2010 named only 7S .... 2011?
.."S" will do
Other than Tallerway, the Halfway 16R is also meant for performance. This model comes with: front derailleur, aluminium frame, and weight less than 9kg.
and the finishing are very nice compare to other brand that has the same price range.
Looks like your influence after the Full Moon Round Island ride is quite far reaching ! You have not only proven that you can use a foldable to go round island but you have also given the racers and MTBs a run for their money with your display of tenacity and skill in staying ahead of the pack !!
On more serious note, would go for Giant or Dahon for foldables? And if it is Giant, what model would your recommend?
BTW I have created a new forum called Foldable bikes, please use this forum to post your discussions. Thanks in advance.
nice bike mate.
looks like the trend is owning foldies now. even el kapitan also riding foldie and goldilock up for sale now.
mono stay tech huh! gotta check the giant website. i thot dahon was the preferred choice when comes to foldies.
Hi Kapitan Goldfinger,
Is your lovely Goldilocks really up for sale?
