One great disadvantage of 405cx is that whith cadence, heart rate and GPS monitoring on, a fully charge battery run out of juice after 5 + hours. It is not sufficeint for a long ride as you can see on the Map I hv posted on the Tlk Bahang ride !!/4/2010. Otherwise i like the watch in all aspect. It looks cool to wear socially too and I usually wear it when I travel as I find the Gps and its "gp back to start" function helpful when I need to get back to the hotel
I am currently using Edge 705 and the battery just last forever or at least it seems. It has tons of features which I am still trying to explore. One of the feature allows you to turn one of your ride histories into a virtual course where you can race against your chosen ride. The following are some screen shots from the training center (11th Bahang ride)
Hi look368,
Thanks a lot!

Hi all,
Please let me know if I am wrong.
Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx ~USD400
Garmin Edge 705 ~USD500
Garmin eTrex Vista HCx ~USD200

Gone mine for about USD193. Planning to upgrade to Dakota 20. Saving now...:)
IMHO, Edge is good for road biking. Reason: it uses proprietary battery and not built for rougher rides. I have been to MTB rides that take about 15 hours or more than one day to finish. Use of proprietary battery pack creates inconveniences. But for those that use common battery, I can always go to any shop buy AA battaries as spares(and they are cheap too).
Hi Turbosnail,
How about Oregon 550 series vs Dakota 20?
Thanks,
Edwin Tan
It's a matter of preference. I prefer smaller form factor of Dakota(about the size of eTrex.). I don't need the preload map since malfree and malsing maps are more detailed than Garmin ones. The 550 comes with camera. I prefer to bring separate camera. It's up to you to decide. Do take note that more feature will consume more power. Do read gpsinformation.net for more info. I find it helpful.
Hi Turbosnail & all,
Thanks a lot! So, Dakota 20 is the best choice right now?
Few questions......
Do you know any shop in Penang selling these MTB related GPS?
Is the map same with Garmin Nuvi series (used in our car)?
Thanks,
Edwin Tan
