Inspirational Ride - The Man who cycled the world
Currently reading this book. Very fascinating. It is abt this young Glasgowian man who decided to RACE around the world not leisurely cycling. He did it in 194 days , 17 hours smashing the previous world record by an astonishing 81 days. He had cycled 18,297 miles ( you calculate in Km, He is British lah) solo and unsupported. It is amazing. It worked out to be about 100 miles per day for 6 to 7 months
Along the way he described the frustration and joy and the fear of the ride. I like best when he described his accomodation in Poland where he landed in a posh hotel in the middle of nowhere surrounded by rural houses. When he entered the hotel he noticed the most attractive female specimens with the most sexy dresses in the lobby and in the dimly lit lounge. Of course, he sleep early that night to get ready for the next day ride!! BTW he is also a vegetarian.
I think most of us 8 to 5 denizens harbour this secret dream of wanting to achieve something like this but unfortunately for the majority of us, it will only be a dream. For me it remain an arm chair adventure reading other peoples exploit.

Fascinated and motivated by their enthusiasm and courage to cycle to known and unknowm places around the earth.
Reading too much of these books; first book by Khoo Swee Chiow, Daniels's cousin "Singapore to Beijing" and now this round the world book.
It inspired us to try to do a 250 Km ride .Tomorrow about 15 of us will start off from HSBC Downing Street at 515am and catch the first ferrry across the mainland and pedal off to Hatyai via the trunk roads; a total distance of 250 Km. We hope to start early and arrive Hatyai before 7 pm. Average speed that we hope to cycle is about 30Kph. We will regroup at Gurun for breakfast and stopping at Alor setar for lunch before regrouping again at Kangar and finally stopped at Padang Besar for immigration clearance. My colleague Jaspher who has strong connection with the consulate, called the Thai assistant consul to inform them of our trip and was told the red shirt and whatever shirt problem seems to be spreading to the rural areas and we were told to be cautious. We maybe detour to langkawi if the problem spread to the south.
Let me wish you Sawadee Karp first !!
