Bicycle Trade Event and Expo
I think Penang should have a Bicycle Trade event and Expo every 1 to 4 years at PISA like PC FAIR. PISA should invite Interbike International Bicycle Expo to make Penang a state which is first to get in the Interbike International Bicycle Expo to Malaysia . Interbike International Bicycle Expo is the international trade fair for bicycles and components. Well known manufacturers
of mass products, OEM producers as well as manufacturers of top quality brands are represented. Manufacturers, exporters, service providers/suppliers related to bicycle & other related professionals & General Public are the target visitors. As Bicycle Retailer and Industry News stated in its show wrap-up coverage, it’s hard to judge which numbers a trade show is citing when it talks about growth – total attendance, retail, consumer, or buying power. All of these factors play into what determines a healthy and successful show for the industry and the markets it serves.
Interbike is the predominant show servicing the North and South American markets. While these economic centers have been hard hit by the recent downturn, they are emerging from this period stronger and the cycling markets stand to benefit as a result of increased economic activity. These markets represent significant potential for growth in the next five to ten years as more consumers look toward to cycling as a means to facilitate transportation, lifestyle and recreation. Interbike will continue to serve as the primary means to interact and influence these key buying sectors.

Not a bad idea. If GClub can successfully organise a yearly bicycle EXPO, it will augur well for cyclists ! Imagine the amount of publicity cyclists and G Club would receive from such an event ?
Perhaps we should start off smaller scale by having a "second hand bicycles and parts trading" event? Why not have this in our upcoming safety campaign? Have a booth for all our second hand bicycles and parts, opened to only G Club members? Food for thought, Dr and committee !
Cheers from Perth !
Why not just start a small section in this group for members who wish to buy or sell stuff ( of course bicycle related )
Yes, it's a great idea ! In fact I have suggested that G Club should start a sort of "second hand trading post" whereby members can bring their old parts and junks during events like Safety Campaign or even "advertise them" here in our website for free, but of course moderated. This idea of mine fits in well with your suggestion too. I believe you are asking why can't we exchange info freely here on where to buy, price, etc. Judging from the site's past comments there are many newbies asking the same question of what to buy. Do we turn them away when they ask a question like that? I don't think there's anything wrong for G Club members to recommend a shop or a particular brand. Anyway one of the aims of Gclub site is to facilitate the flow of info and helping a newbie is a great way to get more (happy) riders on the road !
Chairman, what do you think???
You need ground rules if you want to set up a buy & sell section, such as, the forum is only the facilitator. We don't want to hear about how good or how bad the transaction went, or that you banked in the $$ and you never received the pedals or received only 1 side, all that kind of stories. This is not eBay but a community service if such a site is set up.
It has to be kept simple. A says he has 1 Cinelli handle for sale. Put up 3 photos max, and state a price and and most, can say Pls Make Me An Offer, after he puts up a price. Put up a contact number or email and that's it. Don't tell us that XYZ shop sells it for RM400 and buying from A is a steal at RM320. We don't want to know. Then the playing ground is kept level and clean.
My 2 sens
Adrian,
I have just created a new forum called "Build your own bicycle" Have a go and if you think you need more rights to do more things in the forum, let me know, I can assign you some special rights.
This is the least I can do for now. I hope this special forum, with yourself as the main contributor, will help to stir interest and serve as an eye opener to members that 'anyone, with some time and money can build his or her own bicycle, all from scratch !"
As for the exchange or bargaining 'corner' like what you have just described above, let me discuss this further with Chairman and the committee. I believe G Club wants to stay free from becoming commerical or being pointed a finger later when exchanges turned bad and acrimonious.
One solution is to have it in my shopping portal www.howei.com. I can setup a special section specially for Gclub members to do this exchange. However this has some implications which I will need to think about it.

Dear Jack,
It would be great that we have a bicycle expo in Penang...
