Following our meeting today, the online registration will be launched this coming Monday and registration forms will soon be available from participating bicycle shops once the printer has finalised the printing. We hope that riders will register early so as to avoid disappointment and also to facilitate our organisation. The Rotary Club Of Tanjong Bungah will be in charge of the water stations for both the fun rides and the round island rides. They are also liasing with the state government for the setting up of the bicycle sign posts from Telok Bahang to Pulau Betong hopefully before our event on the 17th October. If they are successful in setting it up, we will have signposts and bicycle emblems from Gurney drive to Pulau Betong, i.e almost half the Penang island. In line with our emphasis on safety, we will be engaging 150 RELA members to ensure smooth riding and control traffic along the route both for the round island and the fun ride. Our upcoming round island jerseys will be quite different from last year and it is certainly more classy. Below a preview of the jerseys;

More bicycle road signposts will be installed to make cyclists more visibleMORE bicycle road signposts will be erected the road from Teluk Bahang to Pulau Betong in Penang to alert motorists and motorcyclists to be aware of cyclists.
The CIMB Foundation foundation is sponsoring our cycling event and road signposts on Oct 17 called ‘The Campaign For A Lane-2nd Edition’ which is organised by the Rotary Club of Tanjung Bungah and G Club Penang Cyclists. Event organising chairman Dr Lim Seh Guan said no less than 180 signs would be erected along the 25km Teluk Bahang-Pulau Betong stretch, hopefully by mid-September. One for the album: The organisers and sponsors for Campaign For A Lane-2nd Edition at the press conference on Tuesday.
“Last year, we started the first phase by erecting bicycle road signs from Gurney Drive to Teluk Bahang,” he told a press conference on Tuesday. Dr Lim hoped that similar road signs would be put up all the way to Batu Maung by 2012. There are 130 signs along the 29km Gurney Drive-Teluk Bahang stretch. On the Oct 17 cycling event, Dr Lim said they hoped to attract 1,500 participants following the huge success of a similar event last year which was called Ride With CM. He said it would be a non-competitive event with the emphasis on fellowship among the cyclists. The event is divided into two categories — a 20km Esplanade-Tanjung Tokong-Espla-nade Fun Ride and an 80km round island ride which will also start and end at the Esplanade. CIMB Group representative Ung Su Ling expected cycling to gain popularity in Penang as more people are going green and health conscious. Participants of the fun ride will receive a T-shirt while those opting for the round island ride will get a jersey. The entry fee is RM20 and RM50 respectively which include drinks and lunch. The closing date for registration is Sept 26. Online registration will start next week at website http://www.pbb.com.my. For more information, call Ronnie at 012-4277883. |

This year event will be held on the 17th, October, 2010. There will be two categories of rides; 1) Fun ride; 20 Km from Esplanade via Jln Kelawai passing through kelawai - Gottlieb road traffic light, then along Jln Tanjong Tokong before looping into EO housing project at the Island Plaza and turning around jln Tg Tokong again and passed along Gurney drive round about and gurney drive and finally back to Esplanade. The round island route will be longer than last year route as we will be looping around Pulau Betong, a distance of about 80 Km. The jersey and t shirt design are being finalised. It will be quite different from last year design and colour but we hope to maintain the quality. Entrance fees are maintain at Rm 20 for fun ride and Rm 50 for round island ride. It will still be a non competitive ride where fellowships among cyclists are still the emphasis. As in our previous ride, SAFETY IS STILL THE PARAMOUNT consideration for this event..................to be updated later. Stay tune. |

I will sure participate this ride , how to pay for the jerseys ? Need to register or get registration form ?
The route is out. it will be put on line soon and the t shirt and jersey is on the final stage of finalisation. The fun ride will stage from Esplanade through Kelawai road and finally via Jln Tg Bungah road and loop around EO housing project before going through Gurney Drive and ends in Esplanade. As for the Round Island ride, it will be longer than last year, we will loop into Pulau Betong instead of cuting into Jln Nipah. It will truly be a round island ride via road. AS for the registration despite the inflation etc, we are still maintaining our entrance fees at Rm 20 and Rm 50. As for our t shirt and jersey, we will try to maintain the standard like last year so that we could wear it all year round after the event
Can you publish the route for the fun ride. How much is the registration fee for both round island and fun ride? Will there be a "FINISHER" jersey?
