Step 1 - deciding the type of bicycle, budget and frame size
Build your own bicycle..
First, we have decided to build a MTB (Mountain Bike) with a budget of around RM 3000
We will also give it a name : Howei (DIY) MTB
We also need to be more specific about the MTB we are building. Is it a Hardtail? (only front suspension) alloy frame (carbon will cost too much) ? what is the targeted weight of the bicycle ?
Answer is : a hardtail, alloy/aluminium frame and is possible, less than 10kg?
Let's get the ball rolling.....
What sort of frame size? What's needed to determine the frame size?
| Sex --> Adult, male Height (H) --> 5' 6" or 168 cm
Leg Length (I) --> 29½" or 75 cm

Fortunately we have a free website that can automatically calculate the frame size for us.

| Frame Measurement
This is the length of the seat tube, measured from the center of bottom bracket to top of the seat tube. Center to Top (C-T): 16.5" OR 42 cm |

| More sizes to consider:
16.5", 17", 17.5", 18", 18.5" 42cm, 43cm, 44cm, 46cm, 47cm

|
Crank Sizes Longer cranks give you more leverage, while shorter cranks allow you to pedal faster. Cranks are measured from the center of each end. Crank size required --> 175 mm

So, finally with CT: 42cm or 16.5" and Crank size: 175mm we can start to search for the parts !!
Next, create a spreadsheet to compare prices and to allow us to juggle our budget !!
